Travel

Train

Amtrak is a pleasant experience along the CT coastline, especially if wanting to avoid fall traffic on 95. The Northeast Regional Line stretches from Virginia to Massachusetts — and the Old Saybrook stop is 10 minutes from downtown Essex, and 20 minutes to East Haddam, CT.

Plane

Bradley International Airport (BDL): 1 hour drive to Smith Farm Gardens.

JFK International Airport (JFK): Two to three-hour drive to Smith Farm Gardens. You can also take the subway from JFK to Grand Central for access to Metro North (regional rail to New Haven, then transfer to the Shoreline East train to Old Saybrook), or Penn Station for Amtrak to Old Saybrook.

Newark Liberty Airport (EWR): Two to three-hour drive. Or if train connection is preferred, connect to Amtrak. The train runs from Newark Penn Station to the Old Saybrook Train Station, a three-hour train ride that stops about 20 minutes from all accommodation suggestions.

Boat

For guests traveling from Long Island by water, the Cross Sound Ferry runs from Orient Point, NY to New London, CT. From the New London terminal, it's about a 20 minute drive to Essex or 35 minutes to Smith Farm Gardens. We recommend booking ferry tickets in advance, especially if you're bringing a car, as spots can fill up quickly—particularly on weekends.

A second option is the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry connecting Port Jefferson, NY to Bridgeport, CT, with approximately a one-hour drive to both Essex and the wedding venue. Car reservations are also available and encouraged for this route.
